Press Secretary Spicer confirmed Monday that President Trump, as he promised on the campaign trail, will donate his entire salary to charity. Apparently, that isn’t good enough for some news outlets.
ABC News viciously attacked the President for deciding to donate the $400,000 payment at the end of the year.
“Trump plans to donate salary, despite pledge not to take one,” reads one headline. The article goes on to say, “Spicer offered no indication Monday that Trump was forgoing payment, despite Trump’s disinterest in receiving compensation which spans back at least 18 months.”
Pathetically, the Trump hit-piece finally explains in its final paragraph why the President is receiving his salary in the first place. It’s in the constitution; he’d be breaking the law by NOT getting paid.
“Trump was correct in stating that U.S. law requires he receive payment. The U.S. Constitution states, in Article 2, Section 1 that “The President shall, at stated times, receive for his services, a compensation, which shall neither be increased nor diminished during the period for which he shall have been elected, and he shall not receive within that period any other emolument from the United States, or any of them,” the article admits.
Perhaps the President should donate his salary to a charity that teaches responsible journalism.
